releasing tension

pmr: a simple practice to ease stress

tension in the body is often a sign of protection— a way our nervous system prepares for real or perceived threats. for many, stress settles in the shoulders, jaw, or back, creating a constant state of readiness. given the world we live in, this response is understandable, but it doesn’t have to be our baseline.

one powerful way to release stored tension and support the nervous system is progressive muscle relaxation (pmr). this practice activates the parasympathetic nervous system — our rest & digest mode— helping the body soften & recover.

why pmr works:

  • brings awareness to areas holding stress

  • supports nervous system resilience

  • improves relaxation and sleep

  • shifts the body out of fight or flight mode

when to use it:
pmr is especially helpful before bed, after a stressful day, or whenever you feel stuck in tension or overwhelm. it works best when practiced lying down in a quiet space.
